Tech Tree Games is hiring a Gameplay Engineer to work from PT ± 3 hours
We are Balas Games, an independent studio based in Istanbul. We are a self-funded, experienced team with a proven track record. Our previous title Recycling Center Simulator shipped on PC & Console and achieved strong commercial results. We offer the stability of an established team with the creative freedom of an indie studio.
The Project
We are developing an unannounced co-op exploration game. The experience focuses on atmosphere, navigation, teamwork, and systemic hazards rather than combat. Players have distinct movement abilities, and the core challenge is traversing the world efficiently and safely.
The Role
We are looking for a Level Designer who excels at world building through traversal. You will not be asked to model 3D assets. You will build levels using our modular library inside Unity and iterate based on playtests.
What You Will Do
- Exploration Layouts: Design multi-layered, navigable spaces with critical paths, shortcuts, and memorable landmarks.
- Traversal & Ability Gating: Create routes that require specific character abilities and encourage teamwork.
- Co-op Scenarios: Design moments where players split up, coordinate, and help each other progress.
- Modular Assembly (Unity): Build levels using prefabs/modules with Grid/Snap workflows; keep scenes clean and scalable.
- Environmental Guidance: Use lighting, composition, and set dressing (props/decals) to guide players without UI markers.
- Iteration & Playtesting: Blockout → test → refine; improve readability, pacing, and clarity.
Who We Are Looking For
- Strong Unity Editor skills (prefabs, scenes, iteration workflows).
- Proven level design experience focused on movement flow, verticality, and exploration (not shooting galleries).
- Co-op design intuition (readability, communication points, regroup loops).
- In-engine portfolio required: show assembled & lit levels inside an engine (Unity).
- Clear communicator (remote teamwork via Discord; written clarity matters).
Bonus Points
- Understanding of baked vs realtime lighting in Unity (lightmap budgets, probes).
- Experience with systemic hazards / replayable layout principles.
- Basic performance awareness (occlusion, light/FX cost, scene hygiene).
